Located less than an hour north of Los Angeles, Camarillo is set amid picturesque mountains, hills and rolling farmland.   A short 15 minute drive lands you at the beach.  The weather can't be beat with an average of 300 days of sunshine a year with mild ocean breezes coming in off the coast.  Residents enjoy year round outdoor activities including golf. biking on 31 miles of trails, tennis and picnicking in one of the many beautiful parks.

Camarillo is primarily a bedroom community made up of large housing tracts, with elementary schools and small strip malls serving the nearby neighborhoods. The primary public high schools serving Camarillo are Adolfo Camarillo High School in Mission Oaks and Rio Mesa High School, just over the Oxnard/Camarillo line. A new high school near the intersection of Lewis Road and Las Posas Road is planned. The YMCA recently opened a new facility on Village at the Park Drive, and a new library was constructed, opening on March 31, 2007.  Camarillo is also home to CSUCI, California State University at Channel Islands.

The incidence of all types of crime committed in the city is far below the national average. Ventura County crime rates in general are low, and have fallen in the last 2 years, from 2007 to 2008, according to FBI reports of cities with 100,000 or greater population.

The abundance of well planned housing has styles to suit many tastes.  Village at the Park is Camarillo's newest master planned community. It features community pools, bike paths, a 55-acre sports park, a YMCA and a new elementary school. From low to high density housing, Village At The Park offers apartment living, condos/town homes, and neighborhood communities, as well as commercial and mixed use space.   There are also many other lovely developments in the Mission Oaks area.  From high end Villa style homes and estates to attractive family ramblers, there's something to suit most budgets and lifestyles.  Camarillo's downtown has been revitalized and there are wonderful established neighborhoods at affordable prices surrounding the area.
